Why I'm Running for Council

Beverly Hills is more than the place where I live. It is my community. It is where families put down roots, friendships are built, neighbors look out for one another, and people come together around schools, parks, businesses, community organizations, and local events (yeah, Halloween Hoot). I'm running for Village Council because I want to help protect those qualities while making sure Beverly Hills is prepared for the future. I believe local government works best when it listens to residents, manages taxpayer dollars responsibly, invests in infrastructure and community assets, supports its professional staff and public safety departments, and approaches problems with common sense and collaboration.

My professional career has given me the opportunity to work directly with communities on many of these issues. My previous service as Beverly Hills Village Manager gave me an especially valuable perspective on our Village—its operations, infrastructure, finances, neighborhoods, businesses, and residents. Now I would like to put that experience to work in a different role: representing the residents of Beverly Hills on Village Council. I'm running because I care about this community and want to help ensure Beverly Hills remains safe, welcoming, financially strong, and a wonderful place to call home for generations of people to come.

Experience

Experience That Can Work for Beverly Hills

Local government is increasingly complex. Council members are asked to make decisions involving budgets, infrastructure, public safety, contracts, planning, development, parks, personnel, and long-term community investments. Experience matters.

My professional career has focused on local government, community development/urban planning, housing, economic development, municipal law and public administration. That experience has taught me how local governments operate, how projects move from ideas to implementation, and how collaboration can produce better results for residents. I am also a licensed attorney with a Masters in Urban Planning (Wayne State) and a Certification in Public Management (SVSU). Most importantly, I have direct experience with Beverly Hills and its residents.

Professional Experiences (including Village Manager of Beverly Hills)

I had the privilege of serving as Village Manager for Beverly Hills from 2022 to 2024. In that role, I worked with Village Council, staff, residents, businesses, neighboring communities, and other partners on a wide range of issues affecting our community. During my tenure, Village initiatives included work related to:

Forwarding the Sidewalk Connector Program and securing a low-interest state funded loan to build the sidewalks throughout the Village
Obtainining funding for and overseeing water and sewer system improvements
Road improvements
Receipt of a DNR grant for the establishment of the Wendbrook Park and Preserve
Improving Village operations and service delivery, such as bringing Building Department Services in-house
Improvement to the businesses along the Southfield Road corridor
Managing the cleanup of the June 2024 wind atorm

That experience gave me firsthand knowledge of both the opportunities and challenges facing Beverly Hills. It also reinforced something I continue to believe: effective local government requires preparation, professionalism, collaboration, and a genuine willingness to listen to residents.

My Approach to Village Council

Listen. Prepare. Collaborate. Decide.

I do not believe every issue facing Village Council has a predetermined answer.

Council members have a responsibility to ask questions, understand the facts, listen to residents, consider professional recommendations, evaluate alternatives, and make decisions based on what is in the best long-term interest of Beverly Hills. If elected, I will approach the position with four basic principles:

Listen to Residents
Residents should have meaningful opportunities to share their concerns, ideas, and priorities.

Do the Homework
Council members should understand the issues before them and come prepared to make informed decisions.

Work Collaboratively
Successful local government requires cooperation among Council, Village staff, residents, businesses, neighboring communities, and regional partners.

Focus on Results
Local government should ultimately be measured by whether it provides effective services, manages public resources responsibly, and improves the quality of life of the community it serves.

I won't promise that everyone will agree with every decision I make. I can promise to listen, prepare, ask questions, explain my reasoning, and always approach the job with the best interests of Beverly Hills in mind.
